GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The City of Modesto has allocated up to $1 million for homeless programs that include job training and housing to help people move off the street. City council members made the decision this week (aiming to improve services for those in need) as part of ongoing support efforts.  CBS News Sacramento
  • Residents of Diablo Grande held a heated meeting on June 4 to demand answers from the Western Hills Water District over a threat to shut off water on June 30 unless more than $13 million in unpaid bills is cleared. The district is proposing to raise monthly bills from about $200 to nearly $600 and residents must file protests by June 28 — a move intended to keep service running temporarily — while county officials say they can offer only limited help.  CBS News Sacramento
  • A weekly traffic impact report for Modesto details several public works projects that are affecting traffic—Scenic Drive pavement, South Street flushline, Woodland Lift Station repairs, Bret Harte road work, downtown signal coordination and Tivoli Subdivision lane closures.
