Drivers of electric and plug-in hybrid vehicles in California will lose their carpool lane privileges once the Clean Air Vehicle Decal program ends on September 30—applications for a decal stop on Aug.
29, and starting Oct. 1 drivers must meet posted occupancy rules and will lose discounted tolls. Federal rules that allowed the program were not extended, causing California to end the program despite earlier plans to run it through 2027.
