Modesto medical residents at Golden Valley Health Centers' Paradise Clinic warned during a board meeting last night that staff cuts and long hours are endangering patient safety and their own well-being.

The reduction—from 36 to 24 residents by next July—will force them to work up to 80 hours a week as they push for better pay, staffing, and scheduling through their union.
